Nehring Associates was founded in 1983 to provide strategic information services to the upstream petroleum industry in North America and to public and private organizations related to it. Despite the great importance of oil and gas production to the national economy, analyses of the upstream industry and its contributions have suffered from a lack of relevant, complete, coherent, and consistent information. Nehring Associates provides strategic information services through our Significant Oil and Gas Fields of the United States Database and through consulting using this database. Our corporate strategy emphasizes continuous product and process innovation to increase the value of our database to our customers. During our first fifteen years, our product innovation focused on expanding the features and coverage of the database. For the past ten years, we have focused on creating analytical tools that make the database easier for our customers to use. In addition to innovative design, we have also emphasized careful research conducted according to rigorous standards in developing the database and its subsequent updates. To maintain these standards, we have a highly knowledgeable and experienced research staff. Our founder and president, Richard Nehring, has more than thirty years of continuous experience in oil and gas field database design and development. Our three senior research associates - Reginald Van Driest, Ron Jagger, and Kevin King - have a combined experience with us of more than 55 years. Beginning with our initial release in 1985, we have stressed thorough testing and editing of the database prior to each annual release to minimize research and entry errors.
Richard Nehring, President Richard Nehring has been President of Nehring Associates since he founded the company in 1983. During this period, he designed the Significant Oil and Gas Fields of the United States Database and its subsequent expansions and directed the initial development and subsequent updates, upgrades, and expansions of the database. Since the initial release of the database in 1985, Mr. Nehring has written more than 20 papers and presentations using the database. Since 1980, Mr. Nehring has served on numerous professional and scientific committees dealing with oil and gas resource and supply issues, including three National Petroleum Council task groups and four National Research Council Committees. He has been a member of AAPG's Committee on Resource Evaluation since its founding in 1993. Most recently he was Chairman of the AAPG Hedberg Research Conference on Understanding World Oil Resources in November, 2006. Prior to founding Nehring Associates, Mr. Nehring was project director of fossil fuel supply issues for the Energy Policy Program of The RAND Corporation for ten years. His major studies during this decade covered giant oil fields and world oil resources; the discovery history and size distribution of U.S. oil and gas fields and their implications for ultimate resources; the heavy oil resources of the United States; and Mexico's petroleum and U.S. policy.
